PPL Center Officially Opens

Allentown’s brand new 10,000 seat arena, the PPL Center at Seventh & Hamilton streets is open for business. With a flick of the wrist today, Mayor Ed Pawlowski, State Senator Pat Browne, members of City Council and others fired the first ceremonial hockey pucks to mark the opening, which was attended by several hundred persons.

The PPL Center is home to the new Lehigh Valley Phantoms of the American Hockey League. The Phantoms will play their first league home game on Saturday, October 17.

The doors will open for the first paid event on Friday night when the classic rock band “The Eagles” will play to a sold out crowd.

The public is invited to attend an Open House at the PPL Center on Saturday, September 13 from 1pm-to-5pm. It is part of the “Rise Together Allentown” event which includes entertainment and activities provided by the city’s arts community at the Arts Walk at Fifth & Linden streets.

A complete schedule of Saturday’s events is available at www.Facebook.com/risetogetherallentown.
