City Hosting Preparedness Event

The public is invited to attend the City of Allentown’s PrepareAthon!SM on Wednesday, April 30 from 3pm-to-7pm at Mack South Fire Station at 1902 Lehigh Street.

It is part of America’s PrepareAthon!SM which is a nationwide, community-based campaign for action to increase emergency preparedness and resilience through hazard-specific drills, group discussions and exercises conducted at the national level every fall and spring. More than 5 million people are registered to participate across the country.

The City of Allentown’s PrepareAthon!SM is a collaboration of the Allentown Health Bureau, the Allentown Communications Center, Allentown EMS, fire and police departments, Lehigh County Office of Emergency Management, the Lehigh Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, Lehigh Valley Health Network, Lehigh Valley Center for Independent Living and Lehigh Valley County Animal Response Team.

Activities include…

• Cellphone Sally handing out info - including cell phone registration on AlertLehighPA
• Virtual Health Village registration –
• Fire extinguisher training
• Hands-Only CPR
• Hand washing education station with glo-germs
• Animal preparedness and response

“Everyone in the community learned the value of being prepared in the aftermath of Superstorm Sandy,” said Mayor Ed Pawlowski. “Everyone learned that disasters can happen in our community. It may not have been as severe as the damage to New Jersey shore communities, but we felt what it is like to be without electric power for days. People need to take action to increase their preparedness and the PrepareAthon!SM is a place to learn.”

Plans are already underway for a second PrepareAthon!SM event in the city this fall.
