Promoted & New Officers Sworn-in

Allentown Mayor Ed Pawlowski administered the oath of office to 12 promoted police officers and four new officers during a ceremony this morning in City Council Chambers.

“These promotions complete a necessary reorganization of the department in the wake of the retirements late last year required under the DROP program,” said Pawlowski. “The promotions establish the leadership of the Allentown Police Department. With Chief Fitzgerald’s guidance, the Allentown Police Department is in good hands for years to come.”

Keith Morris joined the department in 1997 and rose through the ranks before being promoted to Assistant Chief in December. Morris was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in May 2007. He accepted the position of Assistant Hostage Negotiation Team Commander in December 2007. Morris assumed command of the Youth Division in December 2007. He was promoted to captain in January 2011 and began heading-up CID in September of last year. In 2013, Keith was named commander of the Hostage Negotiation Team and Director of Training of the Gerald M. Monahan Sr. Police Academy.

Assistant Chief Morris holds a Master of Arts in Criminal Justice from DeSales University. He is a graduate of the Northwestern University School of Police Staff and Command and graduated last spring from the US Department of Justice FBI National Academy.

Captain William Reinik served as a sergeant in the US Marine Corps. He joined the department as a patrolman in 1993. He later served as a Neighborhood Community Police Officer and Quality of Life/Special Operations Group Officer. He was named Assistant Director of Training at the Allentown Police Academy in 2003. He was promoted to 4th Platoon Lieutenant in 2012. Reinik is in charge of PSA 3.

Captain Tony Alsleben holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Administration of Justice from Penn State University. He joined the department in 2000. Alsleben was transferred to the Police Academy in December 2007. He was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in December 2008 at which time he accepted the position of department Quartermaster. Alsleben assumed command of the Allentown Police Academy in September 2012. Alsleben is in charge of PSA 1.

Captain William Lake was hired in September 1998 and was assigned to the 1st Platoon. He worked various details and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in August 2008, and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. Lake was promoted to the rank of Captain in January 2014 and remains in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Captain Lake holds a BS in Criminal Justice from Mansfield University and served six years in the United States Army Reserves.

Pawlowski also announced the promotions of sergeants Andrew Hausman, Daniel Wiedemann and Stephen Vangelo to lieutenant, and promoted officers Kyle Hough, Robert Holler, Raymond Sannie, Thomas Anderson and Karl Kozlowski to sergeant.

The promotions to lieutenant and sergeant are the first for Chief Joel Fitzgerald who came on the job in mid-December.

“This is an outstanding group of officers,” said Fitzgerald. “They have earned their promotions via their leadership skills, their test scores and their dedication to the job. I am proud to see them get their extra stripes.”

Lieutenant Andrew P. Hausman holds a BS in Criminal Science from West Chester University. He was hired in February 1991 and was assigned to the Traffic Bureau-Hamilton Mall District. He worked various details and was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in April 2002, and assigned to the 3rd Platoon. He is a member of the Crisis Negotiation Team. Lieutenant Hausman was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in January 2014 and is assigned to the 2nd Platoon.

Lieutenant Daniel Wiedemann was hired in June 1996 and was assigned to the 1st Platoon. Lieutenant Weidemann worked various details and was promoted to Sergeant in November 2005, and was assigned to the 1st Platoon. Lieutenant Wiedemann was promoted to the rank of Lieutenant in January 2014 and is assigned to the 3rd Platoon.

Lieutenant Wiedemann holds an Associates Degree in Criminal Justice from Camden County College and served 11 years in the United States Air Force. He spent 18 months on active-duty following 9-11.

Lieutenant Vangelo joined the department as a patrolman in July 1997. He serves as Tactical Team Commander of the Emergency Response Team and heads the 4th platoon.

Lieutenant Vangelo holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Law and Justice from Trenton State College.

Sergeant Kyle T. Hough holds a BS in Business Administration from Delaware Valley College. He was hired on September 1998 and was assigned to the 2nd Platoon. Sergeant Hough worked various details including the Vice and Intelligence Unit. He was a member of the Emergency Response Team. Sergeant Hough was promoted to the Rank of Sergeant in January 2014 and is assigned to the 3rd Platoon.

Sergeant Robert Holler holds a BS in Criminal Justice from Kutztown University. He was hired in September 1999 and was assigned to the 1st Platoon. He served in the Youth Division. Sergeant Holler was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 2014 and is assigned to the 2nd Platoon.

Sergeant Raymond J. Sannie attended Lehigh Carbon Community College. He was hired in June 2000 and was assigned to the Criminal Investigation Division. Sergeant Sannie was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 2014 and remains in the Criminal Investigation Division.

Sergeant Thomas Anderson attended Muhlenberg College. He was hired in November 2001 and was assigned to the 2nd Platoon. He worked various details including the Criminal Investigation Division. Sergeant Anderson was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 2014 and is assigned to the 1st Platoon.

Sergeant Karl Kozlowski holds a BS in Sociology from Penn State University. He was hired in March 2002 and was assigned to the 3rd Platoon. He is a member of the Emergency Response Team. Sergeant Kozlowski was promoted to the rank of Sergeant in January 2014 and remains in the 3rd Platoon.

Pawlowski also swore-in new officers Robert Busch, Brian Best, Adam Dennis and Christopher Matthews. Busch and Best are graduates of the Allentown Police Academy and are assigned to the 3rd Platoon. Dennis and Matthews are attending the academy.

Officer Busch holds a BS in Criminal Justice from Centenary College. Officer Best earned a BS in Criminology from Wilkes University. Dennis holds a BS in Crime, Law and Justice from Penn State University and Matthews earned a BS in Psychology from the University of Pittsburgh.
