City Council to Adopt Recodification

City Council to Adopt Recodification

City Council plans to adopt legislation next month that recodifies the city’s ordinances.

Bills adopted by City Council are arranged into a single code in a process known as codification. The initial codification of the city code took place in the 1960s. Trying to place new legislation into a coherent system established over 60 years ago creates some organizational problems.

The recodification project, two years in the making, reorganizes the content and numbering system. The proposed code has many features that make it user friendly. A link to the proposed code can be found on the city website www.allentownpa.gov and at the following link:  https://ecode360.com/AL4161.

The work was performed by General Code of Rochester, N.Y. at a contracted cost of $27,721.

City Council plans to adopt the bill at its regularly scheduled Council Meeting on December 1, 2021.  If approved, the new Code shall go into effect January 1, 2022.

The code will also be available as an app for apple and android products.
