Fifth to eighth grade girls attending school in Allentown prepare to hit the court!
The Allentown Department of Parks & Recreation’s spring Queen of the Court basketball program tips off Tuesday, April 2 at South Mountain Middle School Gym.
Queen of the Court is a free five-week opportunity to learn basketball fundamentals. The practice setting is relaxed and takes place in a fun and friendly environment. This program introduces the game of basketball to beginners and help refine the efforts of more skilled players.
The program is in its ninth year under the direction of Coach Brittni Kholi and some of her fellow teammates and friends (Andrew Atiyeh, Nicole Calabrese, Jessie Mauser, Deanna Mulick, and Christina Nelson). Through basketball, these coaches empower the girls and teach life skills, confidence and teamwork.
Queen of the Court features a wide variety of guest speakers consisting of former high school and college players, coaches and community members that are sure to make a lasting impact on the girls. Guest speakers make an appearance usually after the first week of practices.
The program is offered free of charge on Tuesdays and Thursdays from April 2 through May 2 from 6:30pm-8:00pm. Pre-registration is not required, and parents are invited to attend and watch from the bleachers.
Girls who have participated in Queen of the Court in the past have made significant improvements to their skill set in the sport of basketball as well in the classroom.
South Mountain Middle School is located at 709 W. Emmaus Ave. Allentown, PA 18103. The entrance to the gymnasium is on Church St.
