Vision 2030 Meeting February 7

The second of four community collaboration meetings for Allentown residents to engage in Allentown Vision 2030, the update to the city’s comprehensive plan, will be held on Thursday, February 7 from 6:00pm-to-8:00pm at South Mountain Middle School.

Allentown Vision 2030 – Your City, Your Voice! will be the city’s new Comprehensive and Economic Development Plan that will chart a path for inclusive, equitable growth over the next 10 years. The plan will address the topics of housing, workforce development, economic opportunity, social equity, environment and conservation, community development, transportation, land use, historic preservation, open space, and a range of other concerns that affect the quality of life and vibrancy of the City of Allentown.

The first Allentown Vision 2030 Community Collaboration Meeting in November focused on understanding Allentown today and identifying community values for Allentown’s future. The second Allentown Vision 2030 Community Collaboration Meeting will take the community values for Allentown and start to create a vision for how the city will change and grow over the next 10 years.

“This session will build upon the November meeting held at East Side Youth Center,” said Mayor Ray O’Connell. “If you attended the first meeting, you don’t want to miss this session with new activities.”

The February 7 Community Collaboration meeting is an opportunity for the Allentown community to come together to build a collective vision for our future and where we will focus our work as we change and grow as a city over the next 10 years. The activities at the meeting will focus on potential redevelopment opportunities, partnerships and funding sources to create an actionable and implementable plan.

Allentown Director of Community and Economic Development Leonard Lightner said, “We were really pleased with participation at the November meeting. We hope those same folks will stay involved on February 7 and we invite them to bring along any interested neighbors or friends. We also hope south side residents will join us as we move these meetings across the city because inclusivity will elevate our entire city.”

Community engagement and empowerment is the highest priority for Allentown Vision 2030. The City of Allentown Bureau of Planning & Zoning wants to hear from and engage with all residents across the city. Check out the Allentown Vision 2030 Facebook, Instagram, and YouTube pages to learn more about the plan. Community members can RSVP to the February 7 Community Collaboration meeting at www.AllentownVision2030.org.

Allentown has engaged the consultant teams of Fourth Economy and evolveEA of Pittsburgh and Faces International in an innovative approach to create a plan that reflects the community’s priorities and provides a clear and feasible implementation strategy.

The event is child-friendly and light refreshments will be provided. South Mountain Middle School is located at 709 W Emaus Avenue.

Allentown Vision 2030 – Your City, Your Voice! is expected to be completed by December.
