Car Explosion Victims Identified

Lehigh County Coroner Scott Grim has identified the three victims of Saturday's car explosion at Hall and Turner streets.

At a 2:30pm news conference held by Allentown police and the ATF at Seventh & Linden streets, Grim identified the victims as 26-year-old Jacob Schmoyer, his 2-year-old son, Jonathan Schmoyer and 66-year-old David Halman, all of Allentown.  Grim said the cause of death was traumatic injury resulting from the blast.  A ruling on the manner of death will follow completion of the investigation.

According to Don Robinson of the ATF, the adult victims knew each other and lived in the area of the blast.  He said he expected to clear the scene of the investigation sometime tomorrow.

Robinson said investigators are dealing with a material that exploded, adding that material from the blast went quite a considerable distance.  Evidence collected from the scene has been sent to an ATF lab for analysis.

Peter Brown of The American Red Cross said the chapter will close its shelter at East Side Youth Center this afternoon.
