Two Firefighters Join City Department

The Allentown Fire Department is welcoming the addition of two fire firefighters after academy graduation ceremonies were held this morning in Easton.

Firefighters Robert Dobrick, the third and David Fuica are joining the department’s third platoon after completing 18 weeks of training at the Allentown Fire Academy.

The firefighters received classroom instruction, intense physical training and participated in hands-on drills. They obtained national certifications as firefighters, and drivers and operators of pumper and aerial vehicles. Other certifications include emergency medical technician, basic vehicle, water and elevator rescues and hazardous materials operations.

“I am particularly impressed by the day to day dedication of the men of our fire department,” said Mayor Ray O’Connell. “We are reminded all the time that firefighting is a dangerous job.”

According to the National Fire Protection Association, in 2017, a total of 92 on-duty firefighter deaths occurred in the U.S.; four of those in Pennsylvania.

The addition of firefighters Dobrick and Fuica increases the department’s compliment to 122 firefighters. They will be reporting for duty on Monday, July 30 for two weeks at Central Fire Station working with all of the platoons before starting nightshift on Saturday, August 11 with the third platoon.
