Pool Openings Postponed

The opening of the City of Allentown’s Mack, Jordan and Irving pools is being postponed until next Saturday, June 23.

“We need the extra time to train staff,” said Director of Parks & Recreation Lindsay Taylor. “Some of our guards are just getting out of school and they haven’t have sufficient time to go through the proper training. All city of Allentown Parks and Recreation Department lifeguards are American Red Cross Certified Lifeguards. As such, there is a rigorous standard curriculum to be followed to ensure that once certified, these individuals utilize the highest of standards to keep patrons safe while enjoying our aquatic facilities. We anticipate being ready to go at all four pools next weekend.”

Persons interested in becoming a lifeguard can apply through the city’s website at https://www.allentownpa.gov/Human-Resources/Employment-Openings.

Cedar Beach Pool has been open weekends since May 26. It will be open daily beginning tomorrow, Saturday, June 16. Non-residents are able to use Cedar Beach Pool on weekdays only.

Bucky Boyle Park and Old Fairgrounds Playground Spray Parks have been open daily since May 26 and are open to residents and non-residents alike.

All facilities are open for recreational use from 12:00pm to 7:00pm daily, weather permitting.

Additional Information regarding City of Allentown pools and spray parks can be found on our website at www.allentownpa.gov/pools.
