The City of Allentown is in receipt of a $500,000 grant from the Pennsylvania Department of Community & Economic Development toward the purchase of a new fire pumper.
The city expects delivery of the newest to be manufactured vehicle in January 2019 and comes on the heels of this year’s purchase of two rescue pumpers that were included in the 2018 capital budget. Delivery of those vehicles is expected this December.
The 122-person department maintains seven fire engines and one ladder truck from six fire stations spread across the city.
The department’s highly trained personnel include units specializing in hazardous materials, underwater recovery and technical rescue, an arson K-9 unit and bomb squad.
