APD in Fitness Challenge with Playground Youth

Participants in the City of Allentown Department of Parks & Recreation’s summer playground program are preparing to take on the police department in a fitness contest.

The children are competing in push-up and sit-up contests at their neighborhood playground location and the winners will take on representatives of the police department during Romper Day activities on Monday, August 7 at J. Birney Crum Stadium.

Allentown Police Chief Glen Dorney visited Bucky Boyle playground this morning to size-up the competition.

“I’ve told my staff that we are not going to lose, but from what I have seen at Buck Boyle, I think we are going to face some stiff competition,” said Dorney.

The program was also introduced this morning at Roosevelt, Valania and Central Elementary School playgrounds. The program has now been introduced at all 18 Summer Playground Program sites throughout the city.

The top playground boys’ and girls’ winners will win a ride along with Chief Dorney and other prizes.
