PennDOT To Begin I-78 Bridge Repairs in Parkway

PennDOT contractors will be making repairs and replacements to a stormwater drainage pipe in Lehigh Parkway, immediately below the I-78 bridge spanning Little Lehigh Creek. This construction will be north of Fish Hatchery Road, and will be in the vicinity of a hiking trail along the northwest side of Little Lehigh Creek between Bogert’s covered bridge and the Fireman’s bridge, located west of Oxford Avenue and near the city park’s Little Lehigh Fly Shop.

The contractor, Bill Anskis Company, Inc. of Elysburg, PA will be replacing a section of 36” corrugated metal pipe, which conveys stormwater from the I-78 bridge deck. The contractor will commence work on June 2, and the project should be completed in 1-2 months, pending weather conditions.

This segment of the park’s hiking trail will remain open for the duration of construction; however, hikers may expect parking restrictions for the duration of construction, and temporary access delays during equipment mobilization, on the north side of Bogert’s bridge. During equipment mobilization, hikers and fisherman are encouraged to use the parking lot near the Fly Shop and Fireman’s Bridge, west of the construction site.

The Bridle Path Trail southeast of the creek, and the parallel parking areas on the south side of Bogert’s bridge will be unaffected by construction.
