City Celebrates New Year's Eve

The City of Allentown and the Downtown Allentown Business Alliance will ring-in the new year starting at 9 p.m. this Friday, December 31 in the 700 block of Hamilton Street.

The event is free and open to the public.  The entertainment lineup includes live music by the Audio Files, a performance by Ely Dance, and fire dancers by OA and concludes with a ball drop and fireworks at midnight.

The following traffic restrictions are in effect from 5 p.m. – 1 a.m. for the New Year’s  Eve celebration:

Seventh Street from Linden Street to Walnut Street is closed and detour is in-place.

Hamilton Street is closed from 9th Street to 6th Street, but 9th Street and 6th Street are open to traffic. Eastbound Hamilton Street traffic can follow the detour.

8th Street is closed from Walnut to Hamilton. 8th Street traffic can follow the detour.  

8th Street City Center garage will be open Enter/Exit. Exiting vehicle should make left turn to Walnut.

The celebration is sponsored by the city, the Downtown Business Alliance, First Commonwealth Federal Credit Union – Allentown, ESSA Bank & Trust – Allentown, Alvin H. Butz Inc., Stuffed Puffs and RCN of Pennsylvania.
