Following an at least 27-inch snowfall, the second largest snowfall in the city’s history, the Allentown Streets Department will begin snow removal operations from city streets on Wednesday, February 3 at 7 a.m.
City crews and private contractors will be removing snow according to the following schedule:
Wednesday, Feb. 3 at 7AM
Gordon St Front St to N 10th St
Ridge Ave Linden St to American Pkwy
Washington St N 4th St to N 13th St
Wednesday, Feb 3 at 7PM
15th St Elm St to Sumner Ave
Tilghman St Front St to 22nd St
Hamilton St 12th St to Front St
Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7AM
Walnut St 10th St to 19th St
N 12th St Union St to Greenleaf St
Thursday, Feb. 4 at 7PM
Front St Hamilton St to City Line
4th St Union St to City Line
N Seventh Street from Tilghman Street north to the bridge (over Sumner Avenue) has been posted for snow removal for Friday, February 5 beginning at 7 p.m.
Teams will work from both ends of the designated routes.
Vehicles must be removed from the designated areas four hours before the work is scheduled to commence or they will be ticketed and towed, the costs of which can exceed $200.00.
Free parking is available in the Arena North Deck (712 W. Linden with room for 700 vehicles) and at the Allentown Fairgrounds by using the Gate 8 on Liberty Street.
Parking is also available in the Allentown School District Parking Deck at 18th & Turner.
The city’s plowing efforts have been hindered by abandoned vehicles.
Residents and property owners are urged not to throw snow into the street. In some cases, people are leaving huge piles of snow in the street that then require large equipment to get by.
City crews will continue to work 12-hour shifts.
