2020 Puerto Rican Parade & Festival Cancelled
Crowd restrictions forced by the COVID-19 pandemic are resulting in the cancellation of the 2020 Lehigh Valley Puerto Rican Festival & Parade in Allentown scheduled for Sunday, July 26.

The annual event is sponsored by Puertorrican Culture Preservation Inc.

“It is with deepest regret that the Puertorrican Culture Preservation Inc. has cancelled the 2020 Puerto Rican flag raising, parade and festival due to the Coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic,” said organization President Flor Velez. “We are working diligently to bring our events next year to the Lehigh Valley.”

Mayor Ray O’Connell said, “The Lehigh Valley Puerto Rican Parade & Festival has grown into a tremendous celebration that showcases a proud culture. The music, entertainment and food are top notch. The pandemic is taking a toll on so many of the city’s traditions. I pray that everyone stays safe and medical science develops a successful treatment or vaccine in the coming months and our celebrations will be better than ever in 2021.”

Lehigh County was part of a stay at home order issued by Pennsylvania Governor Wolf on March 25. The county entered a “yellow” phase of reopening on June 4. Reopening restricts event sizes to no more than 25 persons. Even in the so-called “green” phase of reopening, crowd sizes are limited to no more than 250 persons. The governor has not yet announced when Lehigh County will be admitted into the “green” phase of reopening.
