The city of Allentown Stormwater Bureau will begin construction of a Best Management Practice Stormwater Management Basin at the lawn island at the intersection of 6th Street and Sumner Avenue on Monday, March 16.
It is anticipated that Sixth Street will be closed between Sumner Avenue and Sumner Court beginning Monday, March 16 and remain closed for approximately two weeks while the work is ongoing.
The initial stage of the project will involve the construction of stormwater piping in Sixth Street between Sumner Avenue and Keck Street.
The basin project will be constructed over the spring and summer months until completed.
The project is funded by a $250,000.00 Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources grant.
The work will result in an environmentally friendly stormwater management and water quality basin that will control stormwater and increase stormwater quality.
The basin will include a subsurface infiltration bed as well as plantings that will enhance water quality.
