Street Closure for Tree Lighting Ceremony

Hamilton Street in the City of Allentown will be closed from 9th Street to 8th Street on Thursday, December 6 beginning at 2:00pm for the annual Tree Lighting Ceremony at PPL Plaza.

The ceremony is a partnership between the City and the Downtown Allentown Business Alliance. Festivities include musical performances, dance acts, horse-drawn carriage rides, face painting, hot coco, and appearances by Pip the Mouse, MeLVin, and, of course, Santa Claus.

The event is free and open to the public.

The Lehigh Valley Marine Corp. Toys for Tots will be in attendance to donate and distribute toys to the children. (Toys are available on a first come, first served basis.)

TREE LIGHTING SCHEDULE OF ENTERTAINMENT:

4:00-4:30 – Welcome and holiday music by Dave Fry
4:30-4:45 – ASD 3rd Grade Flutophone Ensemble
4:45 - Santa arrives on fire truck
4:45-5:05 – Holiday music by Dave Fry
5:05-5:10 - Tree lighting with Mayor O’Connell, Santa and WFMZ’s Mark Shanaberger
5:15-5:40 – Performance by William Allen HS Band
5:45-6:10 – Performance by Dieruff High School Jazz Band
6:15-6:30 – Performance by YEA! Xcape Dancers
6:30 - Program Ends

The tree lighting is sponsored by the City of Allentown, City Center Allentown, The Waterfront, Vault 634 and City Entertainment Systems.
