Mayor Ray O’Connell and the City of Allentown are seeking public participation as the city embarks on updating its comprehensive plan.
Allentown Vision 2030 – Your City, Your Voice! will be the city’s new Comprehensive and Economic Development Plan that will chart a path for inclusive, equitable growth over the next 10 years. The plan will address the topics of housing, workforce development, economic opportunity, social equity, environment and conservation, community development, transportation, land use, historic preservation, open space, and a range of other concerns that affect the quality of life and vibrancy of the City of Allentown.
“This is the first update to the plan since 2008,” O’Connell said. “Allentown has seen a lot of changes in the last ten years and this update will chart the course of the city through the next decade.”
According to Director of Community and Economic Development Leonard Lightner, “Allentown Vision 2030 represents a great opportunity for the city to think differently and collaborate with our citizens on a shared vision for our future. We look forward to working together with the community to create a plan that is actionable and realistic, and showcases the incredible diversity and vibrancy of Allentown.”
Community engagement and empowerment is the highest priority for Allentown Vision 2030. The City of Allentown Bureau of Planning & Zoning wants to hear from and engage with all residents across the City. Allentown Vision 2030 launches today with the release of a new video asking everyone across Allentown to participate in creating the vision for the future of our city. There will be four citywide community collaboration meetings to engage with Allentown Vision 2030 and contribute to the development of the plan. The first citywide community collaboration will be on Tuesday, November 13 from 6:00-8:00pm at the Eastside Youth Center located at 1140 E Clair Street, Allentown PA 18109.
The event will be the first of many opportunities for the community to participate in the development of Allentown Vision 2030 and help shape the plan. The event is child-friendly and light refreshments will be provided.
The community can learn more and collaborate with the city in a number of ways – via the Allentown Vision 2030 - Your City, Your Voice! Facebook, Instagram, and Youtube pages, by attending one of the four citywide community collaborations, and other planned opportunities to share priorities, recommendations, and feedback throughout the development of the update.
Allentown has engaged the consultant teams of Fourth Economy and evolveEA of Pittsburgh and Faces International in an innovative approach to create a plan that reflects the community’s priorities and provides a clear and feasible implementation strategy.
Allentown Vision 2030 – Your City, Your Voice! is expected to be completed by December 2019.
