The Paintings of Edith Roeder
February 20-March 15, 2013
Opening Reception: Wednesday, March 6, 2013 from 6:00-8:00pm
The Rodale Family Gallery

The Paintings of Edith Roeder will feature twenty-two works of the beloved 92-year-old local painter to be presented in the Rodale Family Gallery. Edith Roeder found an exciting hobby, painting in oils when she retired after twenty-five years of teaching English at Northern Lehigh High School. A move to Allentown brought contact with many fine artists. She joined all three arts organizations: the Lehigh Art Alliance, The Bethlehem Palette Club, and the Parkland Art League. Now, regular exhibitions keep her at the easel. Her paintings can be found on display at Palmerton Hospital, Lehigh Valley Hospital, Westminster Village, Phoebe Home, The Heritage Center, Parkland High School, McCaskey High School in Lancaster and many private collections.

Favorite subjects for paintings are local scenes, gatherings of interest: a car show, shoppers at the farmer’s market, fisherman at the creek, a band concert in the park and artists showing their work at Art in the Park. Other favorites are her garden, Allentown Parks, and the colors of the changing seasons. She has stated that she finds painting more fascinating over the years and that it offers a means of expression available to all. In addition, it “builds enjoyment in the world around us and an appreciation for the magnificent works of those famous in art.”
