Paving Program in High Gear

Asphalt Paving Systems, Inc. of Lehighton will be completing the City of Allentown’s 2017 Street Maintenance Program over the next two weeks.

Beginning tomorrow, Thursday, July 20, the final phase of the project will be performed. A final finish coat of slurry seal or a fog seal will be applied. The affected streets will have to be temporarily closed while the seal application is made and a four hour set time will be needed until the roadways will be able to receive traffic. The first phase of the project which included the application of an emulsion and a small aggregate surface maintenance treatment has already been completed.

The maintenance application is low cost treatment to preserve and extend the life of the City’s roadways.

The travelling public is advised to avoid the following streets while the seal coat application is being applied:

Downeyflake Lane from Lehigh Street to Mack Boulevard (7/20)

East Hamilton Street from Hanover Avenue to Irving Street (7/21)
South Carlisle Street from Hanover Avenue to East Mosser Street

Chapel Avenue from East Emmaus Avenue to West Federal Street (7/24)
Business Park Lane from American Parkway to Allentown Drive (7/25)
Dixon Street from Mack Boulevard to South 5th Street (7/26)

Highland Avenue from N. Polar Street to N. 19th Street
Park Boulevard from Honochick Drive to Hamilton Boulevard
Springhouse Road from Tilghman Street to Broadway
College Heights Boulevard from Tilghman Street to just west of North 31st Street

The total project cost is $461,370.00. It is being paid with City capital funds.
