Environmental Cleanup at Allentown Metal Works

Lead paint and asbestos cleanup will begin this spring at the former home of Allentown Metal Works.

The City of Allentown will loan $376,200 from a U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) grant to Allentown Commercial and Industrial Development Authority (ACIDA). ACIDA will use the funds to perform the cleanup of lead paint and asbestos at the property located at 606 S. 10th Street. The cleanup is another step toward returning the 20 plus acre property to industrial production.

Details about the project can be found on the Planning and Zoning page of the City of Allentown web site http://www.allentownpa.gov/Planning-and-Zoning. The link contains the cleanup plan and the analysis of brownfields cleanup alternatives.

Copies of the document are available for review at Allentown City Hall, Planning and Zoning, 4th Floor, 435 Hamilton Street, Monday through Friday, 8am to 4:30pm and at Allentown Economic Development Corporation, Bridgeworks, 905 Harrison Street, Monday through Friday, 8:30am to 5pm. The public is welcome to review the documents and make comments.
