The City of Allentown marked Flag Day on Wednesday with the annual Flag Raising Ceremony at City Hall.  Members of the 110-year-old Allentown Flag Day Association helped Mayor Ed Pawlowski raise the flag at the 12 noon ceremony.

The Stars and Stripes, by Act of Continental Congress, was born on June 14, 1777.

The Association conducted a program and sponsored a concert at West Park on Wednesday night.  Lehigh Valley Heritage Museum and Lehigh County Historical Society Executive Director Joe Garrera addressed the crowd on "Why the American Flag Still Matters."

The Association also honored winners of a Middle School essay contest.
