Note: Cases recommended for approval by HARB on June 29th will be forwarded for approval by Allentown City Council on Wednesday, July 15, 2015. Cases recommended for denial by HARB will be referred to the Community and Economic Development Committee of City Council, date to be announced. Cases that are tabled by HARB on June 29, 2015 will be rescheduled for review at their Monday,

August 3, 2015 regular meeting.

1.        Case No.:  HDC-2015-00019             Address:  1123 W. Linden Street

      Proposal:   Maintain the recently stained brick front façade

A.         Case Review

 

1.        Case No.:  HDC-2015-00020             Address:  435 N. Lumber Street                                                       

Proposal:  Replace inappropriate double hung vinyl window at front of facade (2014 violation).  Strip paint off brick at the first floor porch.  Remove concrete step and replace with brick pad topped with bluestone matching scale and arrangement of existing concrete.  Remove pipe-railing and replace with square bar stock wrought iron balustrade and simple rail.

 

2.        Case No.:  HDC-2015-00021             Address:  822 W. Gordon Street

Proposal:   Replace existing front steps with brick, with blue stone treads.  Modify existing pipe rail to meet code requirements and neighboring porch; if unable to alter a wrought iron hand rail with square stock balustrade and simple hand rail will be installed.  Brick color and texture will be matched as best as possible

 

3.        Case No.:  HDC-2015-00022             Address:  922 W. Liberty Street

Proposal:  Treat stucco facade with a matte finish.  Replace window on Liberty St. and alley sides with appropriate windows.  Reconstruct front steps with brick and bluestone.  Repair railing if possible, if not replace with similar square stock wrought iron balustrade with simple hand rail, paint black.  Trim will be repaired and repainted where possible.  Dormer will be restored. Original materials will be retained if possible or replaced with like-for-like materials.  Front door will be repaired.  New light fixture will be installed.

 

4.        Case No.:  HDC-2015-00023             Address:  929 W. Turner Street

Proposal:  Restore original wood clapboard appearance of building. Replace front door to more closely resemble original six panel. Replace grocer’s alley door with wood door. Front windows replaced with aluminum clad wood windows w/true divided light panes. Door and window frames will be repaired/replaced as needed.  Vinyl shutters removed. New light fixture added and door hardware replaces. 

 

      5.   Case No.:  HDC-2015-00024                Address:  506 N. 6th Street

Proposal:  Replace peak to match 1940's style. Replace porch rails with wood balustrades in a size closer to original. Original wood windows will be repaired and repainted if possible, if needed to be replaced with aluminum clad wood window matching original. Concrete steps, downspouts, step railing to be repaired. Repaint entire facade, repairs as necessary

 

      6.   Case No.:  HDC-2015-00025                Address:  228 N. 10th Street

Proposal:  Remove brickcote to expose original brick and repoint where necessary.  Lintels and sills will be repaired and repainted, as will the iron grates. Dormer repaired and painted as needed for consistency. Front entry way will be repaired. Storm door replaced with full view storm door. Rear porch posts, balusters will be scraped and painted. Concrete steps will be replaced with brick steps with stone slab trends. Existing railing will be repaired and repainted.

 

7.   Case No.:  HDC-2105-00026                Address:  407 N. 6th Street

Proposal: Remove white paint and restore closer to original red brick. Brick repointing and repair. Box gutter and cornice will be repaired.  Retain original door and transom above. Transom is three light storm - clean if possible or removed and replace with single light transom storm.  Storm door replaced with full view storm door.  Relocate house numbers. New wall sconce installed to one side of door.  Windows will be repainted to match color scheme.

 

8.   Case No.:  HDC-2015-00027                Address:  409 N. 6th Street

Proposal:  Remove brick cote and restore to original brick as best as possible.  Mortar joints repaired. Damaged bricks repaired. Front and storm doors will be replaced with historical appropriate ones. Grocer's alley door replaced with salvaged grocer's alley door or four panel wooden door. Vinyl windows replaced with two over two aluminum clad wood windows. Trim around the doors and windows will be repaired and repainted.  Box gutter and cornice will be repaired. New house numbers and new light fixture.  Concrete step at front door will be replaced with a brick pad.
