The Nine Lehigh County School Districts who made the H1N1 vaccination clinic at Parkland High school happen:
Without a county health department in Lehigh County, the nine school districts were faced with a challenge – delivering H1N1 vaccines to thousands of school children. The Superintendents from all nine county districts joined forces to offer the Lehigh County Children’s Clinic. These nine districts in partnership with Lehigh Valley Hospital, the Allentown Health Bureau, Lehigh County Emergency Services and the Eastern PA EMS Council offered two eight hour clinics. With vaccine provided by the PA Department of Health, over 12,000 persons were vaccinated. The clinic was an example of true partnership and each superintendent volunteered his/her time surrounded by staff who gave up their holiday shopping time to do the same in the blistery cold of December. The result was that many children were spared the wrath of H1N1 and that all districts developed new relationships which will result in better cooperation in the future.
