Program Description:
The purpose of the cancer prevention activities is to collaborate with local hospitals and community agencies to increase awareness about cancer in our community, and to promote ways in which individuals can protect themselves from cancer through prevention and/or early detection.
The Cancer Prevention Program provides FREE screening services and education programs to address cancer issues in our community. The goal of these services is to reduce incidence (number of new cases developed) and mortality (number of deaths) of those cancers that have been identified as preventable or more successfully treated if detected early. The program focuses on the most common forms of cancer – breast, cervix and gynecologic, colon/rectum, ovarian, prostate and skin.
Primary Services:
- Schedule FREE mammograms for: Women 40 years of age and older who do not have health insurance to help pay for the mammogram. Participating sites include Breast Health Services of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital's Lanshe Women's Center, and St. Luke's Women's Imaging Center of Allentown.
- Schedule FREE Pap tests for: Women 18 years of age and older who do not have health insurance to help pay for the Pap test. Participating sites include Center for Women's Medicine of Lehigh Valley Hospital, Sacred Heart Hospital's OB/GYN Services, and St. Luke's Women's Health Center of Allentown.
- Schedule FREE prostate cancer screenings for: Men 50 years of age and older who are uninsured.
- Conduct FREE cancer education presentations. The available topics include breast cancer, cervical and gynecological cancers, colorectal cancer, ovarian cancer, prostate cancer and skin cancer.
