A summer-long carnival is being held at the Da Vinci Science Center ... a Body Carnival that is – one accompanied by tumblers, feats of strength, and amazing feets of fancy.
The Center is showing the Body Carnival traveling exhibit – presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network and supported by Dan’s Camera City – through Sept. 5. The Center also will present a Summer Series of inspiring demonstrations and hands-on explorations of the body’s wonders and an Amazing Feets Photo Contest. Guest performers will include elite Parkettes gymnasts, coaches from Velocity Sports Performance Allentown, and educators from the Weller Health Education Center.
Body Carnival allows each visitor to explore “the fun of being you.” The concepts of force and pressure, the properties of light and sound, mathematical concepts, and the laws of motion are all part of how human bodies interact with the world. Through a variety of interactive experiences, visitors will understand the science of how their body works and interacts with the world.
The Body Carnival experience, presented by Lehigh Valley Health Network, includes a giant artery, through which visitors can climb to discover the effects of plaque on blood flow; a ten-foot dizzy tunnel that emulates a rotating star field; a vertically-striped Wacky Wall, upon which visitors can test their balance by moving the wall from side to side with a pulley; and sound cushions upon which visitors can lean to feel the music through their bodies.
Body Carnival will be included with paid Da Vinci Science Center admission. The Da Vinci Science Center is open publicly Monday-Saturday, 9:30 a.m.-5 p.m., and Sunday, 12-5 p.m. Regular admission prices are $11.95 for adults, $8.95 for boys and girls 12 and under, seniors 62 and up, and military members and veterans. Children under 4 are always free. Updated activity schedules will be available on the web at www.davinci-center.org.
